BACKGROUND: In March 2008, FERC approved the Broadwater project, but two weeks later the New York Secretary of State rejected the proposal to construct a floating Liquefied Natural Gas terminal moored in Long Island Sound citing the proposal was not consistent with six Long Island Sound Coastal Management Program policies.
New Yorkers were estimated to save nearly $21 billion in energy costs during the first 10 years that Broadwater operated.
