OPPOSITION: Clean Ocean Action
PROSPECTS: Indeterminate
BACKGROUND: BlueOcean Energy proposes to deliver natural gas through a floating LNG terminal to fuel the New Jersey and New York region. Anchored about 20 miles off the coast of New Jersey and about 30 miles off the coast of New York, the floating LNG terminal will be far from shore and away from shipping lanes, ports and recreational areas. The floating ocean terminal will not be visible from the shoreline. Consultation began early in 2008 and will continue throughout the process. BlueOcean Energy expects to file a Deepwater Port Act license application in 2009. The project is estimated to cost $1 billion.
Clean Ocean Action, an environmental coalition advocating clean water issues, opposes the project as an environmental concern and danger to surrounding ecosystems.
