Jericho Rise Wind Farm

ACKGROUND:  The Jericho Rise Wind Farm will be located near Franklin, New York.  The developer is Jericho Rise Wind Farm, LLC, which is a subsidiary of Horizon Wind Energy.  The project includes 53 wind turbines that will generate 79 megawatts of energy, which is enough energy to power about 24,000 homes. 

The project continues to encounter opposition.  The Town Boards of Bellmont and Chateaugay say the project will negatively impact the environment.  Jericho prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in spring 2009 to address these issues. 

Ongoing litigation is also delaying the project.  Lawsuits have ensued regarding whether criminal activity took place in determining the site for the Jericho Rise Wind Farm. 

Currently, the Jericho Rise Wind Farm has been put on hold for the rest of the year by Horizon Energy due to financing issues and unstable economic conditions.
